ALUMINIUM DIVISION
In December 2007 the Company's Aluminium Division received certification of
compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS)
Specification 18001. Thus for the first time the Company's divisional health
and safety management policy was recognised at the international level.
The certificate of compliance with the international OHSAS 18001 standard was
granted to the Aluminium Division of the Managing company, ZAO RUSAL Global
Management B.V. in Moscow, namely to the aluminium smelters in Krasnoyarsk,
Bratsk and Sayanogorsk, and Novokuznetsk.
This is a milestone that the personnel of the Aluminium Division have been
striving to reach over the course of two years,' pointed out Mikhail Kozlov,
Director of Health, Safety and Environment Department. This aim was achieved
thanks to the well coordinated and goal-oriented work of the staff at the
production facilities in the health and safety services and units. With this
goal in mind the currently operating new Health and Safety Management system
has been developed and introduced. The system relies upon the prevention of
injuries, accidents and hazards. It comprises the latest instruments of
production management: road-mapping, behavioural audit and risk assessment. In
order to facilitate the implementation of the system the Safety Department
arranged training for the Health, Safety and Environment Department staff, line
managers and managers of units, departments and other elements of the Company's
structure'.
The first stage of the certification programme resulted in the Aluminium
Division receiving the ISO 9001 certificate of management system quality. The
Krasnoyarsk, Sayanogorsk, and Novokuznetsk aluminium smelters supplying the
automotive industry were also then granted ISO/TS 16949 certificate for
technical specification compliance. In August 2007, the Aluminium Division was
attested to comply with the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
The certificates confirm that each stage of the production process of the
Aluminium Division at UC RUSAL is guided by the principles of identification,
assessment and prevention of quality, environment, health and safety risks. The
integrated management system enables the Aluminium Division to set unified
quality, environment, health and safety protection requirements for all units
and streamline management process across the division.
Viktor Zhirnakov, Director of UC RUSAL's Aluminium Division, said: The
integrated management system provides the Aluminium Division with a basis for
constant improvement of all activities - enhancing the company's sustainable
development and setting higher standards of client management and contract
execution control. Most importantly, the certification provides for a better
quality of the working environment for our employees and suppliers. It also
helps to preserve the environment for both current and future generations,
contributing to the realisation of the ∜Paving The Way To A Safer
World initiative adopted by UC RUSAL in May 2007.
