Today there are several hundred schoolchildren in the company’s environmental teams, which started their activities at the end of 2004. The project is being implemented in partnership with regional environmental non-profit organisations, which manage the work of the volunteer schoolchildren. Environmental teams consisting of up to 20 schoolchildren are located in every city where the company is based.  Experienced teachers are supervising the activities of the ‘green patrols’.  

Each volunteer team creates its own project to raise environmental awareness among the residents of the town or region and undertake different activities, such as cleaning up a stream or protecting endangered plant species. 

The environmental teams are particularly focused on improving the environment in the local area, town or region. Some of the goals set by the young environmentalists are to convey environmental awareness to the local authorities and residents, and encourage the town residents to get involved in solving local and regional environmental problems.    

15th March 2007 was the deadline for submitting applications to manage the work of the children’s teams in Abakan, Achinsk, Boksitogorsk, Bratsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk and Sayanogorsk for the 2007 summer season. 15 applications were submitted and the winners will be announced on April 11th. The teams will work from May to October 2007.
