Geography
Polevskoy is a town located in the Sverdlovsk region of the Russian federation with a population of 60,000 people. The town is 9 km away from the Polevskoy railway station and 50 km south-west of Sverdlovsk. Its main industries include metallurgy and the chemical industry.  The Sverdlovsk region covers an area of 194,800 square kilometres and has a population of 4,582,000. The area lies on the eastern slopes of the Middle and Northern Urals and the adjourning end of the West Siberian Plain. Yekaterinburg is the administrative centre of the region.

Development

Plans for 2007 include

• the development and implementation of continuous melting and the cryolite-free production of aluminium trifluoride
• the implementation of the new sewage neutralisation system
• the introduction of coarse aluminium trifluoride production technology
• the recycling of production waste into commodities, and the complex utilisation of raw materials

Environment

The plant is currently engaged in the following environmental projects:

• the reclamation of Residue Disposal Area 1
• engineering & environmental studies aimed at preventing environmental pollution from hazardous emissions
• the construction of an area to cut scrap metal aimed at preventing pollution of soils and surface water with chemicals
• the technical examination of water treatment plants and the development of technical solutions to intensify their operations
• waste disposal and recycling.
